Midtown Tulsa Real Estate - Lori Cain: Going to the Big Easy - New Orleans Mini-Vacation

Going to the Big Easy - New Orleans Mini-Vacation

Going to the Big Easy - New Orleans Mini-Vacation

Demetrius and I don't vacation much, but we're headed to the Big Easy for a conference mixed with a little site-seeing and a lot of food. We prefer to take mini-vacations because we're both workaholics and don't like leaving our pups for long. So three full days and two half-days in New Orleans should do the trick. Demetrius has been to New Orleans several times - before and after Katrina - so he has fabulous stops scheduled for us.

shrimp gumboWe are actually going to a cooking demonstration at the New Orleans School of Cooking - we will watch them prepare shrimp and artichoke soup, crawfish etouffee and pralines - and are promised generous tastings plus Abita beer. I would prefer to don an apron and cook with the Cajun chefs, but observing is all our time will allow.

Dinners out include restaurants Jacques-Imo's and K Paul's Louisiana Kitchen. Breakfasts are planned at Brennan's and The Old Coffee Pot Restaurant.

We are planning a walking tour of the French Quarter Jackson Square - since I've never been to New Orleans, I'll be toting my camera and updating you on my blog.

Mardi Gras

While Deme is attending his conference for the American Library Association, I will be enjoying facials and massages and extras at the Atlantis Spa - three hours of pampering scheduled. They promise to start my day with mimosa and provide wine or champagne during the many services - looks like I'll take a cab to and from the hotel!

Going to the Big Easy - New Orleans Mini-Vacation

So, a mini-vacation with my amazing husband and my first visit to the Big Easy. I love the way they talk in Louisiana, and I'm sure they'll appreciate my southern "Okie" accent.

When I think of New Orleans, I of course think of Mardi Gras, decadent food, historic buildings and flamboyant times. If you've never been to the Big Easy, follow my blog and I'll share our fun!

Lori:  This sounds wonderful....I have some artichokes I am cooking this evening....but have never heard of artichoke soup and shrimp sounds like a great accompaniment!

Jane - that's awesome that you cook artichokes! I don't do it often. The list of suggested restaurants from Facebook friends just keeps getting longer. It may turn out to be a 4 day food feast!  I had BETTER take the walking tour in the French Quarter!
