The ever-changing way in which we communicate -- QR-Codes, mobile barcodes
I might have questioned your sanity ten years ago if you told me I would be carrying a phone and computer in my pocket some day -- that I would communicate with friends and clients through text-messaging, tweets and FaceBook status updates. But, here I am with my iPhone in my pocket -- tweeting, texting, instant messaging and e-mailing from where ever I happen to be.
And, it continues to evolve, which is the challenge and blessing of technology.
My newest communication discovery is mobile barcodes or QR-codes (the QR acronym is for Quick Response). QR-codes are two dimensional barcodes designed to have its content decoded at a high speed.
Depending on what kind of smart phone you have, you can download a reader for free.
If you've downloaded a QR Reader, go ahead and activate it and point your phone at the barcode embedded in this post.
Voila! Instantly, a YouTube video of a home for sale at 14213 South Urbana Avenue in Bixby, Oklahoma, pops up on your phone screen.
What percentage of homebuyers own smart phones? Read a bit about Smartphone statistics and market share. For example, Nielsen reports smartphone sales accounting for 25% of the US mobile phone market in the second quarter of 2010, and expect smartphones to become the majority by the end of 2011.
The ever-changing way in which we communicate -- QR-Codes, mobile barcodes
How in the world does this change how we advertise real estate? It changes everything!

No need to clutter up a brochure or ad with tiny photos of a 2,000 square foot home - simply insert the barcode and let the prospective client view your beautiful home video!
In order to effectively SELL real estate, you must understand how home buyers shop. And yes, they're reading tweets, text-messaging, shopping on the internet and now viewing videos from their smart phone.
Trust the Realtor keeping up with today's technology to help you sell your home. That's just SMART.

Now this is truly scary. I will have to see if Blackberry has one of these apps. Thanks for the heads up, Lori.
Lori,
I was unaware on this one. You're one smart cookie! Suggested!
Not scary Jane. EMBRACE it!! I downloaded the QR Reader for my iPhone from the App store.
Lori, like you I am "tweeting, texting, instant messaging and e-mailing" as well as viewing updates on different sites with my iphone. This looks very cool so I will download from your link and try it! Thanks!
Russell - search for QR Reader from the App store and download it free. You can open the video by holding your phone like you are taking a photo of the barcode. Amazing stuff!!
Judi - thank goodness we've got each other to keep up with this stuff!!
Hi Lori. That is truly amazing! How were you made aware of the program? I only heard of it for the first time yesterday at the Google seminar I attended in Atlanta.
I've been looking into the QR codes - awesome example on how to use them. Technology is moving so quickly it's almost hard to keep up - but I love it!
Thanks for the post Lori. I'll be educating myself about the QR codes in the next several days.
P.S. Cain was the bad one!
WOW !!! High Tech
Patsy - my photographer showed it to me last week. She just figured it out. So, we're all newbies at this.
Debbie and Cameron - I'm pretty excited about it.
Will post more as I learn more!!
Way cool Lori! I'm headed to the app store now. Thanks.
Oh sure, Tricia. Shop, shop, shop! :=)
Robert - ya gotta try this!
Lori....The QR codes are truly leading edge. It is absolutely mind boggling when you consider the speed at which technology is changing and how it impacts the way we do business. One of the cool things I like is a video email program which allows you to send a video email instead of just text. Keeping up with these ever increasing changes is a real challenge.
Mind boggling indeed - would love to read about the video e-mail program - have you blogged about that?
Lori -- good thing I like learning--technology changes so quickly it really keeps us hopping. This one is exciting.
Lottie - thankfully we have each other to help us all keep informed!!
WOW...you are on the edge of technology, and I love your logic !
Thank you Joye - check it out - it's a great new marketing tool!
I'm still facinated by this technology. After sleeping on this last night, I'm still puzzled. How do you get your marketing material linked to a QR code ? Is there separate software that generates the code ?
Joye,
Photographer goes through buildmytour.net - she pays extra for the tour to be uploaded to YouTube and they provide her with the barcode.
It's somewhat irritating to me that they won't provide her (me) with a video that I can upload to MY YouTube account. It's on their account. I did figure out that I can scan the QR code and from my phone, I can save the video to my "favorites" on YouTube.
You'll probably need to research which photographers in your area provide YouTube videos and the corresponding QR code.
Hope that helps. If you would like to speak to my photographer, e-mail me at razncain@cox.net
I know it was getting quite popular but than i thougt about it and it seems as if qr codes are slowing down.
