Tulsa Oklahoma OktoberFest, October 21-24, 2010

OktoberFest is not Tulsa's oldest festival, but it's certainly the largest, and after 32 years, it has become a true Tulsa tradition. And, Tulsa's OktoberFest was named in the top 10 Oktoberfests in the country by USA Today!

Tulsa OktoberFest and beer!

There is plenty at Oktoberfest for everyone in the family to enjoy: GREAT food, contests, games, music, arts and crafts, and of course, BEER. There is a schedule of bands on the official web site, which shows who will be playing in which tent at which time. My fav band, Mid Life Crisis is playing in the Bier Keller tent Thursday from 7:30pm to 11:30pm.

There is a ton of food from which to choose, but I'm not going to OktoberFest to eat a funnel cake - I want German food! The German American Society of Tulsa will be serving bratwurst, kanackwurst, polish sausage, potato pancakes, sauerkraut and stollen. F&J Catering is offering schnitzel, potato salad and bavarian cheesecake, while Ludger's Catering is offering bratwurst, weiner schnitzel, and apple strudel. Hmmm . . . may have to try those also to see how they compare!

I'll also be visiting the Die Bierstube tent where you can sit down and enjoy authentic beer imported from Munich, Germany or a cup of wine while enjoying live Bavarian style entertainment. The Der Bier Garten tent is where you can learn to polka and EVERYONE does the famous Oktoberfest CHICKEN DANCE!!!

Festival location is River West Festival Park - on the west side of the 21st Street Bridge, at 2100 South Jackson Avenue. I highly recommend that you take a shuttle instead of trying to park - there are three Tulsa locations where you can pick up a shuttle ride at a cost of $4 per day - see web site for locations and times shuttles are available.

Admission to the festival is $6 with children under the age of twelve admitted free. Pets are allowed at the festival, but not in the tents.

Tulsa OktoberFest FOOD!

Tulsa OktoberFest is truly a community event with the majority of people working there are volunteers from our community. Oktoberfest, Inc. is a non-profit organization and all of the proceeds go back into our community. To date, Oktoberfest, Inc. has contributed over $850,000 to the Tulsa River Parks Authority.

Questions? Visit the web site, TulsaOktoberFest.org or call 918-744-9700 or e-mail admin@tulsaoktoberfest.org. Hope to see you there and maybe we can do the chicken dance together!!
