Ouch – spider or scorpion bite!
I’m visiting my Dad who lives in a beautiful, woody area in eastern Tennessee where the beauty of the Appalachian mountains is simply breath-taking. Because it’s winter, we haven’t spent as much time outdoors as usual, but it’s actually been mild weather for winter.
My Dad and his wife have built miles of hiking trails in the acreage behind their homes and the foliage is awesome in the spring and summer. The photo here shows a fair amount of green considering it's January.
Did I mention that I’m a “city girl?”
Demetrius, Theo and I are visiting Dad and Dr. B for the holidays. Yesterday I noticed a knot on my back leg slightly above my knee and showed it to my husband. His reaction startled me, “What the hell happened there?” he asked! I ran to the bathroom to get a mirror, and “Yikes” is right. There is a huge bruised area around the small knot.
Spider bite, I thought?
Ouch!
So, I put on shorts and ran to show it to my Dad. He asked me if the area was painful, which it is not – so that ruled out the dangerous brown recluse spider bite. Dad very calmly told me it was likely a scorpion bite and proceeded to show me several dead scorpions caught in his kitchen light fixtures.
Of course, I’ve googled spider and scorpion bites to make sure my leg is not going to fall off. Needless to say, I’m taking some fresh garlic to bed with me tonight.
Dad's homemade sign warns about his rock walkway being slippery when wet. Perhaps he needs to add a sign warning of the local critters attacking!
