Crosbie Heights Community Farm Block Party, Sunday October 24, 2010

Crosbie Heights is not a subdivision - it's a COMMUNITY west of downtown Tulsa and one thing they're especially good at is throwing a great block party. They've got one today starting at 2:00pm and lasting till 11:00pm - take a side dish and join the fun. Neighbors eating and jammin' to the music

I never miss a Crosbie Heights block party if I can help it. The folks there have a community garden from which they share the bounties. The Blue Jackelope grocery and coffee shop is the hub of the action.

Last time Demetrius and I went to a Crosbie Heights block party, we took a pasta salad, paid $5 for the AMAZING ribs and chicken someone grilled on site and bought some wine from a visiting winery.

Another time we were there, we did about the same, but bought okra and other yummy foods from a visiting organic farmer.

They always have music. Today, Travis Fite and Gwendolyn Ransom will be there, and I'm sure there's plenty more. Everybody sings and dances.

From Scott Smith, owner of the Blue Jackelope: Sunday, October 24, 2010 - The Crosbie Heights Community Farm is back to celebrate another growing season. There'll be food and music. All y'all gotta do is bring yourself and a side dish. 2-11p, out front of the store. This time around, there'll be a Pumpkin Patch to delight the young and old with hot apple cider, activities, and pumpkins for purchase. And of course-smoked ribs, chicken and breakfast Tacos if you're early enough to catch the Music.

Crosbie Heights Neighborhood Sign

Best way to get there is to take Riverside north to Houston; take a right on Houston and follow it past the BOK Center to 3rd Street. Turn left (west) on 3rd Street and it turns into Charles Page Boulevard. Follow that west maybe a half mile and the Blue Jackelope is on the left.

It's just good, old-fashioned community fun. We always run into friends and make new ones. Off to make a pasta salad and will be headed to Crosbie Heights this afternoon - hope to see you there!
